Marcon...why do you keep posting so much practical sense?!Marcon said:
Romance may be dead(!), but the tax advantages of marriage or civil partnership, and the certainty of a partner's pension from a DB scheme (they don't all pay out to unmarried partners, or where the marriage took place just before death), not to mention ease of administration in other areas... I'd make that top of your list - and updating your wills.WillC999 said:
Me + OH not married - though would consider a civil partnership if it makes things easier.
I can take my SIPP at 55, the OH at 57 due to the coming changes.
A reminder that I need to re-marry (I don't see much difference to civil partnership) in order for me and my OH to protect one another. After reading the lump sum thread we most definitely need updated wills too. Without disclosing my full situation there can't be many where two people should get married for all kinds of reasons!
A prompt to get ring shopping and a 'job' before the end of the summer. So it was you who said romance is dead!

Winter is easy as you have enough to be able to fly South and avoid the worst of it.WillC999 said:@cfw1994 - wise words. The winter issue bothers me. Summer will be fine. I’m generally a ‘self-starter’ and find things to do. Will think further.
I freelance in IT, so could potter on, but you need to stay up to date so there’s a minimum viable workload.OH works in public sector admin and I think would leave tomorrow without a care, for all the usual reasons.0 -
We tend to view winter as a time to plot, plan, have catch-ups with pals, do as much of the Leicester Comedy Festival (Feb) as we can (9 shows this year, most with various friends along)….& also binge a few series! Ted Lasso, Slow Horses being the latest we managed - we chop & change streaming services for brief periods to do that 💪Triumph13 said:

& yes, I suspect one day we will head for some off-peak sunshine, although as I type I am resting towards the end of a month in the Alps. Keen yet entirely average skiers, we aim to get a bargain apartment, & love being out here ⛷️
I hear home has warmed up since we left….Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!1
