Basic Bank Account

Has anyone who has experienced bankruptcy (issued August 24) been able to get a basic account?

I have a fraud marker on my record which is making it much harder but Monzo are in the process of closing my account. Also 12 months into a suspended sentence for the fraud. Which I know is making this task so much harder.

I have tried Santander and TSB basics account (neither of which I had debt with) but have been refused both.

Obviously wary of damaging my record more with searches but need to be able to receive my salary, pay DDs to recover from what can be described as the worst 24 months ever.

I accept that I've screwed up previously, but any help on basic accounts/options would be so gratefully received.

Maybe looking at a savings account would be a way forward.

That won't allow me to pay my DD's which is one of the reasons I'm praying to be accepted for a basic account somewhere.

I just need to be able to bank my salary and pay my rent, council tax etc but without a bank once monzo closes I'm really in trouble. It's just going to damage my record further and set back my recovery.

Thank you very much for the suggestion though.

Have you considered speaking personally to your local credit union? Some do offer accounts from which DDs can be paid. They probably won't allow an overdraft. And maybe not a cash card?

Meantime, do you have reliable family who might be prepared to let you pay your wage into their account?

The fraud marker will stop you getting most accounts, it is more of a problem than bankruptcy.

I definitely don't want an overdraft or anything like that.

Ideally would like a debit card to be able to pay for food shopping, fuel etc. But at this point I accept that may not be possible.

I'm slowly realising the fraud marker is more detrimental than the bankruptcy. In hindsight letting the business go rather than enduring this would have been better, but hardship/karma is a lesson.

I just hope a bank accepts me for a basic account. Someone has recommended revolut but I'm very wary of funds being held/accounts closed for no reason with them.

Years ago I had to open a cash card account with Barclays. That was no credit, but did allow DD's and wages in etc. It was low risk for them as the card only allowed cash withdrawals at first. I think I did move onto a payment card after about a year.

hey there, I've recently finished my suspended sentence for fraud, but didn't get fraud marker on my record [received a mortgage and bought a house while on suspended sentence], no bankruptcy though. Try Metro bank basic account, they don't run credit checks, but it's really basic account, you won't even be able to set up DD, alternatively try Wise or Suits Me account [this one comes with fees though].
