I am just two weeks from completing on a property purchase in Scotland. I was sent the missives today and horrified to read:  All proprietors are prohibited from keeping in the flats any dogs, cats, poultry, ducks, pigeons, rabbits, bees or other livestock or from breeding animals.
Should I pull out of the purchase? What can be done? I have two elderly house cats, who have been with me for eleven years. They are very quite and calm and sleep much of the time. I am devastated. I look for words of wisdom.

What sort of property is it?

Is it a block of 200 or 2 flats?

If the later then you could more likely be reported, or you could ask the other flat owner what they think.

Generally these sort of clauses are unenforceable anyway - but you don't want to get on the wrong side of your new neighbours who may have allergies...

As above, most covenants are unenforceable.
Do the other owners have pets?  Pop round and ask.

I know the house buying laws in Scotland are different to England so you can't just drop the whole thing, but surely this is an important fact you should have been informed of before finalising your offer?
