American Golf - Free custom fit, but do you pay for whatever they customize?

Hi,
Im new to golf and am looking to book a custom fit with the local American Golf.
Although the fitting is 'free' - do I pay for the things that they customise - ie shafts and grips.
Im only looking to pay for one of the cheapest sets of irons <£200 and the web site has a link th 'book custom fit' but am wondering if as a beginner, I just buy them and see how it goes for the time being? - if custom fit will add a chunk to that price then I may not go for the session and just play it by ear.
Thanks
