Cleaners insurance

Hi, me and my partner work together cleaning, we are both employed full time. We need some extra hours and will be doing some self employed work together cleaning offices. I wondered if we both needed to get public liability insurance as sole traders or if we can pay once, as business together. I have only ever been a sole trade before filing tax returns. Thanks.

If you are both to be sole traders then yes you would both need to buy insurance. Were you to form a partnership then you could collectively buy a policy but you would need to register the partnership with HMRC and do a partnership return in addition to each of your personal returns. Alternatively one of you could be a sole trader and the other their employer and buy a single policy to cover the business but then you are potentially looking at having to do PAYE, have a pension scheme on offer (even if they don't enrol), employers liability insurance etc.0 -
Yes, romantic
Thanks for your help. I think the two sole traders looks like the easiest option for now.

Many policies do not cover ' property being worked on' (so no cover is you scratched a table when cleaning it), but there are some policies (AXA) that give this cover for little or no extra premium. Please do your own due diligence.
You may also wish to have Legal Expenses cover included in the policy. Covers various situations and not necessarily expensive. Again, please do your own due diligence.
Hope you get it sorted
