Armed Forces Spouses Pre 1975.

Why is the cut off date for Armed Forces Spouses pension credit 1975? My wife accompanied her husband overseas several times prior to 1975, therefore she was unable to make NI contributions and now receives a reduced pension of 60%.

Quite simply because that is how the act is.  Someone decided that was the cut off point.

Do you have a pension in payment from AFPS75? Are you aware there is a widows element to this?

    Might be worth considering this:

Sorry read that again, I now interpret that your wife was previously married to a member of the armed forces, she was not your wife at the time when the deployments took place.

Because 1975 is long enough ago for her to have built enough NI since, if she’d have wanted to?
My Wife was able to get 4 years from 1985, when I was serving in Germany.  She’s still a couple of years short but she’s got 4 years to get credits.

60% seems very specific - did your wife opt to pay the married woman's stamp/reduced NI?

60% sounds very much like the “old” married woman’s pension based on husband’s contributions
