Underpaid pension

I recently contacted HMRC regarding underpaid pension for my late mother and father. They have stated that they don’t have the pension records as they passed in 2016 and 2011. Therefore they cannot assist. Is this correct?

Did they work for HMRC?JaneAnnePancake said:I recently contacted HMRC regarding underpaid pension for my late mother and father. They have stated that they don’t have the pension records as they passed in 2016 and 2011. Therefore they cannot assist. Is this correct?
If not perhaps you could explain why you contacted them?0 -
Is this regarding state pension or a private pension?JaneAnnePancake said:I recently contacted HMRC regarding underpaid pension for my late mother and father. They have stated that they don’t have the pension records as they passed in 2016 and 2011. Therefore they cannot assist. Is this correct?
Assuming the former, have you read this:

Interested to hear more about this as I'm facing the same situation.JaneAnnePancake said:I recently contacted HMRC regarding underpaid pension for my late mother and father. Mother passed in 2017 and I submitted a claim to DWP in 2022 when Martin Lewis started talking about underpaid state pension.
Chased them a few times since then as I didn't hear anything, and yesterday received a letter saying DWP no longer have her pension records due her passing away in 2017 and the rules governing the retention of customer information, and therefore cannot look into my enquiry any further.
This doesn't sound right to me.0 -
Having done some digging, it seems that DWP do not retain records for longer than 4 years after a person's death. Therefore, if you claimed for underpayments in 2022 (when all this kicked off I think) then the deceased would've needed to have died after 2018 to be in with a chance of a successful claim.
Seems an easy way out for DWP...... "Sorry, can't look into it, we've deleted the records now".0
