Rentokil Initial Pension Scheme

Hi,

I have a final salary scheme from 2003 with Rentokil Initial and are having trouble tracking it down.  It seems that the schemes were all sent to different administrators and none of them seem to recognise my NI no.  The Pensions Tracing Service gave me a name of Capital Hargraves but they have no record. A fellow colleague who was in the same pension scheme ended up with the Pensions Insurance Corporation, however mine isn't there either.  He also received annual statements but I haven't had anything since 2003.  Any help would be much appreciated, trying to get contact nos is impossible

How long were you employed by RI and at what age?

It's possible there's no pension to find. Why are you sure there's a Final Salary scheme with you as a member?

You should have received annual statements, you say you've had nothing since you left that employment?

Not usual for a deferred pensioner of a private sector DB scheme. There should be a (roughly) annual communication called a Summary Funding Statement, which is a generic document giving details of a scheme's financial health - I wonder if that was actually what the colleague was receiving prior to the buy out?

I have a benefits statement from 1st April 2003 so I know that it is exists.  The Pensions Advisory Service told me that the don't have to provide annual statements for a DB scheme.  I started at Rentokil in July 2001 but this scheme stopped after a while and was frozen.  They then switched to a stakeholder which was eventually transferred out when the business was sold.

The closure of the DB scheme seems to have been in or around 2005?

Do you have a scheme reference number?

Were you given a statement of deferred benefits when the scheme closed?

You started in July 2001 - when did you leave? You normally need two years' membership of a defined benefit scheme to be entitled to a deferred pension, otherwise you would either get a refund of your own contributions, or (sometimes) the possibility of a transfer to another pension scheme, or possibly (if the scheme is winding up) a 'small winding up lump sum'. I wonder if your DB benefits were transferred to the stakeholder scheme if you were still employed by Rentokil at the time, or you received a refund/winding up lump sum?
