No need to top up voluntarily but wondering if I should?

Options
Hello there,

I checked if I had any missing NI years (which I do) and was happy to pay for the missing year. When I checked the system, if I retire at retirement age for women there is no voluntary NI contribution to pay, however, If I select to retire sooner the system says I can pay a voluntary contribution.

The system is predicting I will receive approx. £220 now and in the future.

My question is shall I pay the voluntary contribution for that missing year anyway in case things happen and I need to retire early?

I have the money to pay for the missing year before 5th April however I don't want to pay if it makes no difference.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    I wouldn't.
Apart from anything else, that extra year is only going to add a small amount to take you from your 'approximately £220' to the current maximum of £221.20, so unless the year is particularly cheap it's almost certainly not going to be a good return for the money.
