Could someone advise me please. I have inherited my late mothers home and I am now looking into the banding as the road she lived on consists of several Bungalows which differ in size. On the internet their are only two properties in Band E and all the remaining are Band D. When I had to have the property valued for probate we were advised that my mothers rpoperty was not the biggest in the street neither the smallest which obviously then made us aware there was a size difference. My question is that if we are able to challenge the band and get it reduced would I be able to claim the rebate for the past 33 years (1993)  or would I only be able to claim rebate since my late mother has passed and the property be put into my name. Thanks for any help/advice you can offer.

I would worry about getting the band reduced first.


If there was a reduction, any refund belongs to your mother's estate. So the executors of the estate would be entitled to claim a refund of any excess CT paid for the period of your mother's occupation. However some councils, believing they would be in breach of GDPR have destroyed CT payment records over 6 years old and thus cannot give refunds for any earlier period.
