Hello again folks,
About to pay my wife's voluntary NI contributions but....
Her record, downloaded before her retirement 18 months ago, said that she had 28 years of full contributions.
However, the letter she has received says she can pay 8 years, making by my maffs, 36 years!
So, the question is it 35 or 36 years of contributions that are required for a full pension please?!

35 years only applies to those whose contributions are all after 2016.
I was born in 1959 and needed 48 years for a full pension!

Someone will no doubt come along and say they were a ‘50s or ‘60s child and needed 35. But if they did need that number it’s not for the same reason as it would be for someone who reached working age from 2016.Fashion on the Ration

Don't you need enough years of contributions since 2016 to bring your "starting amount" (calculated then and based on the old pension, taking account of being in or out of SERPS etc) up to the full amount of the New Pension? Mine was 36 years too. Anyone who was contracted out for a long time's likely to need more years I assume.4.7kWp (12 * Hyundai S395VG) facing more or less S + 3.6kW Growatt inverter + 6.5kWh Growatt battery. I had 43 years in 2016 having been employed by the NHS for my entire career. I needed all 7 years I had left to get a full State Pension, a total of 50 years. This was even with a starting amount of about £8 more than the old basic!1
