Nationwide

Hi, we have sold our house for £104,950.00 and had an offer of £98,000.00 accepted on the property we are buying. We are with the Nationwide and have a mortgage of £61,000.00 left.
We have had a few problems paying our credit card and a first national loan but we have monthly payments set up now.
We were told a while ago that our mortgage could be moved to the new property and no credit check would be needed as long as we weren't borrowing anymore money, but today we called to start the ball rolling in the house moving process only for them to do a credit check and refuse us. We will know for sure tomorrow if we can stay with the Nationwide. The first national loan (£980.00) has gone into default but monthly payments are sorted now and as soon as we move the balance will be paid in full with the money that we have laft over from the house sale.
I would like to know if there are any 'normal' lenders that would lend us the money at a decent price?
Would we have to pay the £900 early payment to Nationwide even though it's their choice not to deal with us anymore?
Might Nationwide turn round and say yes to the mortgage move?
Would a mortgage advisor be able to talk the Nationwide around if they do say no? My estate agent has a great mortgage advisor.
Thanks for any help in advance!
