Sorry need to vent!!
I have just counted up the money I have saved over the christmas period and worked out how much we will have saved by the end of the month and it comes to a princely £300 :j
Go to my car to do the rest of the months shopping only to discover the rear suspension on my car has failed and it will cost £200 + VAT to correct  .
I am so upset as we have been so good at not spending money - OH and I only spent £30 on each other over xmas, went shopping on Saturday and thought well will blow some money as he gets his bonus in January and then decided to be grown up and wait until it was in the bank and spent nothing.
It can be so disheartening and depressing. Sometimes I just think "oh bu$$er this for a game of soldiers" and just enjoy my life and sort it out another time, not spend every day on excell working out what we can and cant spend.
Thanks for listening - and sorry to be boring.

Yes but you have missed the point - it is sad that you have an unexpected cost, but no matter what you did it still would have happened. At least this way you can afford it, and are not going further into debt. You should congratulate yourselves on that! Well done! That is how solvent people do things until they have more money!unsecured Debts at [strike]August 2007 £79,984[/strike] September £79,579 [STRIKE]Snowballing date July 2013[/STRIKE].

Try not to get down about it, but see the postive side of this situation.
Just think if you hdn't been so good in saving this money, and the car still needed fixing then the cost would of have to probably come from a overdraft or Credit Card.
This way you are using your own cash with no interest rates or burden of having to repay a company back.
That's what saving is for.....to spend you own money when most needed rather than borrow and end up paying more back.
You should be patting yourselves on the back, saying see what we can do if we put our mind to it.Financial Aims for 2012:
1. To pay off Car loan (£2,163.85 / £300.23 : 13.9%) 2. To pay off Joint OD ([STRIKE]£1,928.53[/STRIKE] / £1,928.53 : 100%) 3. To pay off GF's CC (£1100.31 / £0 : 0%) 4. To OP Mortgage (£1000 / £0 : 0%)
Money Saving / Making in 2012:
1. Ebay (£0 ) 2. Surveys (£0 ) 3. Quidco (£156.45 (Feb 12) ) 4. Lottery (£0 ) 5. Groceries (£0 )0 -

Hi Saffron,
it's a total byotch isn't it?
just as you feel like things are going right, the devil pees on your bonfire once again!
Try to be positive and at least you have the dosh to sort it from what you saved! Think how much worse it would be if you hadn't saved that £300, where would you find the money then?
Check you have the best quote for the work doing! would it be cheaper to buy the parts yourself and find a qualified person to do the work, or is there a mechanics college anywhere near you who do discounted work?
...Linda xx
PS.... Try saving the old £2 coins, it's amazing how they mount up!It's easy to give in to that negative voice that chants "cant do it" BUT we lift each other up.
We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -
Stamps foot !!!!! You are both right but I wanted a new sofa not new suspension!!!!!!!
Yes I am glad that I can afford it right away but it is still annoying!!!

I know what you mean Saffron....we hold our breath every time the MOT comes round on my hubby's car!
cars always lose value and need more and more maintenance as they get older....it's just one of thoses necessary evils!

Hi,
I think the others are right - the positive side is that normally you wouldn't have been able to afford the unforeseen cost, but now you can without using credit. Well done you!!

Sadly it is a Citroen so I really do need to take it to a dealer, but it is a good car and all in all it is not a huge amount of money.
