Class 2 contributions when self employed

Hi
I have been self employed since 2002 and have completed self assessments every year.
I have been self employed since 2002 and have completed self assessments every year.
I have checked for gaps in my NI contributions and have gaps going back to 2008/2009. It is stating that the cost of filling my gaps is £824.20 for years 2008 to 2020, £795.50 for 2020/2021, £800.80 for 2021/2022, £824.20 for 2022/2023 and £907.40. I understand these payments to be for Class 3 national insurance. In 2016/2017 I actually paid class 2 national insurance so why it is stating that I need to pay £824.20 to fill the gap and states on my NI record that the year in not full.
My profits are up and down and some years have been below the threshold to pay NI but I wanted to pay class 2 contributions voluntary but when I checked the box for this on my self assessment form it would now allow me to continue to complete the form so I had to uncheck the box. It also says that class 2 contributions will be treated as being paid, although none of this is shown on my NI record.
How can I pay the correct amount of class 2 NI contributions (or class 4 if need be) to fill the gaps and get my NI record put straight.
Prior to 2006 my NI record states that the year is full and the contributions are from self employment. Could something have happened to my self employement status and how do I find this out.
I have completed the form to get a call back from DWP but was hoping that someone may be able to give me some advice.
Thanks.

Are you definitely registered as self employed with HMRC?
This is a completely different thing to being registered for Self Assessment.
I would say you will need to call HMRC and speak to someone who deals with NI to get to the bottom of this.0 -

My self employment as a landlord of multiple properties doesn't count as self employment so no N.I deducted - until I argued the case. Class 2 paid, £150 per year N.I gets you about £5 per week more penson, so it would be stupid not to pay it if you can.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0

Thank you for your comments. I was hoping that I could check my Self Employment status online rather than phoning but I can't find how to do this. I will call HMRC and wait for my NI call back.0
