Asda Pension

Options
Trying to sort out my various pensions. When I was a student I worked part time in Asda for about 6 years and am sure i paid into a pension. However that was about 25 years ago! Is there any point in trying to track this pension down? Will ut have any value? And also where do I start, do I call up Asda and ask about it from all those years ago??? Any advice greatly received. Thanks

It is ALWAYS worth seeing if a pension has some value. I have a similar pension, at today's value it would pay me £300 a year. My friend said it wouldn't be worth the energy to claim it, until I pointed out it would cover our electricity bills for 4 months of the year.

Start here and you should be able to find the right contact details. https://www.gov.uk/find-pension-contact-details

    Good luck.

you could start with the pension tracing service

Find pension contact details - GOV.UK

you may find though that as a part timer you might not have been able to join the pension scheme or there may have been other restrictions.  But you definitely should try - even if it's only a small amount you earned it so it's worth investigating.  It may be that it's a defined benefit scheme and they are nice to have paying you a bit.

Taking the 6 and 25 years literally, that would have been when the old Asda DB scheme was still going. The scheme was subject to a full 'buy out' (i.e. given over to an insurer) six years ago. I'd follow up with the insurer in the first place (in this case Rothesay): https://www.rothesay.com/policyholders/policyholder-contact-page/
