Will I get a basic pension?

Hi all.

If someone's worked part time all their life and hasn't been taxed (due to their income being below the threshold), will they get a pension when they reach retirement age?

I can't find anything specific to that situation.

Also bear in mind there's no benefits claimed either during that working life. The only income would be purely from the part-time employment.

Thanks.

What does your pension forecast say?
Even if you don't get a pension, you might qualify for pension credit.

That sounds as if you may be are talking about income tax, rather than National Insurance ?.

It's quite possible when working part time to be paying neither income tax or National Insurance, but to be earning enough (currently over £123 a week) in a single employment to be gaining NI credits which will contribute to your State Pension entitlement. But to know an individuals entitlement they need to get a peonsion forecast as per the link from the poster above.

Firstly it is about NI not about tax.  Tax is calculated over the year whilst NI is calculated weekly/monthly.  So if whilst working part time you have earned over the LEL, lower earnings limit, then you will have earned credits.  The current LEL is £123 a week.  Have you looked at your gov account.  that should spell out what you already have.
