    HMRC won't remove a COPE without proof that your pension scheme paid COEG the NI rebate (the CEP) all those years ago. If you really want to push this (really not worth the aggro imo) then you would have to start with your old pension scheme, and they would have to produce definitive proof that they did make this payment. This would have almost certainly predated any meaningful computerised records, so they would have to rootle through 40 year old paper archives. If they exist. Just let this one go.
