can’t you top up online?

My Wife’s found a part year (2015) that she can buy for £95,  which will give her full pension after another 2 years working for me and getting credits.  Then I can retire, yay!

We’ve both looked on the Gov. uk / tax account and can’t see a way of paying.
Seems really stupid if it’s correct,  there must be thousands of people wanting to pay missing years.

I thought there was a way of paying online but may be wrong.

Is she 100% sure that paying that year will boost her pension - not all pre-2016 years will, however cheap.
How many pre-2016 years does she have already and what does her forecast say ?

In my Personal Tax Account, if I scroll down on the ‘Your National Insurance record’ screen, below 2006-2007 there is a green button ‘View payable gaps’. But even if you have that and the year is available it doesn’t guarantee that it will improve her pension as it’s a pre-2016 year. So it could just be a donation to the Chancellor.

Oh right.  Well she’s logged a call back with the future pension centre so fingers crossed.

It looks like she has 26 full years up until 2016
and this is her forecast.   She will get full credits for 24-25, 25-26 and 26-27 because I employ her over the LeL.
She’s positive she claimed specified adult credits for 22-23 but they haven’t shown up.

Post up the following anonymous details from the forecast and someone will tell you whether that year will work or not, it is fairly straightforward maths based on those points. You will get the answer in under 5 minutes !
Current weekly £££.pp amount up to April 2024.
Number of full NI years 15-16 and earlier
Number of full NI years 16-17 and later
Any COPE amount.  If you have "You've been in a contracted-out pension scheme" on your forecast then click
here https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/check-your-state-pension/account/cope whilst logged into your tax account

So what happens when you press the Green button that says Check if you can pay for gaps online?

That sounds like a problem that crops up for self employed people and only a call to HMRC can fix it. Does that apply?

The maths don't work with those figures, either she has a COPE or she does not have 6 post 2016 years or she doesn't have 26 pre 2016 years, 25/6 or 26/5 works with no COPE.  But with only 26 pre 2016 years she can safely add another 4.
