So on 4th feb i called HMRC and got my 18 digit number.
I have spent around 4 hours today on the website and app trying to find an actual payment portal.
I eventually found a page on the app and entered the number only to be told it was an incorrect format and should start with 60.
My number has a 9 at the start and 60 at the end!
so i re-entred the number moving the 60 to the beginning and tried again, it worked. But i had ni idea if that was right so closed the app.
I tried the app again and the page no longer exists in any form!
So here again 3 hours on wait for HMRC to sort the number out again.
Does anyone have a simple link to the ACTUAL payment page not a page where it should be linked because non of the links go anywhere useful.
Thanks in advance - really sick of this literally wasting my life and pulling my hair out....

I’ve always assumed the 18 digit number is used as a reference when doing a bank transfer from your bank’s online web site or banking app. So you need the sort code and account of where it needs to be sent to.0

Yes, the 18 digit is the reference to quote when making an online payment from your own bank account. Were you not given the payee bank account details along with the reference ?0

I've had the same issue.
I was given a reference number a few months ago and assumed I was to pay online but when I tried that I got the following message...
"There are years on your National Insurance record that have not been updated. This means you are unable to pay for gaps online."
So where and how do I pay?0 -
Account Name : HMRC NICO
Sort Code : 08 32 20
Account Number : 12001004
Reference : "Your personal 18 digit number" (Edit : My number did start with 60)
Those are the details I used about 7 months ago, bank transfer.
