Persistent phone calls from PRA Group

Hi DFW's,

New forum user here.

I've had a long and tumultuous relationship with credit/debt.
Long story short - PRA keep calling me to chase a £800ish debt from around 2012.

I was paying them £1 per month (standing order had been set up) until early 2023 but called to tell them my circumstances had changed (accumulated £20k gambling debt in space of 7 months) and I no longer could afford this repayment, especially as the debt is 11 years old and no longer appears on my credit file.

I've been receiving automated calls daily for around 4 months.
I did answer a few times but they were pressing for me to set up a payment plan so I'm not willing to answer anymore.

A few questions:
A) Could this be sent for CCJ?
B) Are there persistent calls harrasment?
C) If I write a proveit and they follow with letters, can I be legally contacted by post? Post causes me a lot of grief considering the gambling issue.

TIA!

They could, in the sense that the debt would not be statute barred. It's unlikely they would do but not impossible.

Is it harassment? Well it could be.

    Hi fatbelly
    Thank you for the reply.
Looks like the ebst course of action for me to take is call them, ask them to prove it and cease with phone calls?

Can't you just block their number? They phoned me every 2 days for about 18 months chasing an unenforceable debt. I just left them to it, blocked their number ajd deleted their answerphone messages.

Yes I have blocked them and delete the calls too.
Little cautious this may lead to a CCJ is why I have posted here tbh.

Still exists. Does this have any bearing?

Yes, it does. If you are making payments to it, then PRA (who can see your credit record) may assume that you could afford to pay them something.

If you aren't making payments to the 20k, then you need a debt plan going forward that covers that and the old PRA debt.
