Sainsburys strong white bread flour?

Options
Anybody had a problem with this flour? Whenever I use it in my SD253 the loaves seem to collapse. Is it a flour problem or am I doing something else wrong? MTIA.

I believe there are some dodgy batches of flour on the market at the moment. I'm currently using Carr's breadmaker flour and it's wonderful.

Both Allinsons (light green packet) and Hovis seem to come out as damp squibs. Maybe it's the quality of the gluten in that season's wheat?

I also found that the dodgy flours did do slightly better if I reduced the amount of water a tad and put it on a normal programme instead of the quick one.

I hope not as I have bread in the breadmaker now and its the first time ive used Sainsbury's own brand flour.

I've used half and half with wheat (yup wheat, I have a little flour mill and I mill my own wheat... delightful!)

I'll let you know what its like when its finished, however it could be a while as its got about three hours to go.

    Hi gt568,

I had exactly the same problem a few weeks ago with my Panny, but I was using tesco bread flour. Got some very good replies on this thread here (post #26 ) and since then have been following the advice given of using more water than normal, mixing the flour with brown flour and moving the panny to a different/warmer place. I am back to making good bread ..... and am using Sainsburys flour.

I've never had any problems with any flour but i know some people do. May be its because its cold in your kitchen?

Just a quick update. The Sainsburys flour seems fine. It wasnt a massive rise however it was the first time i'd used the wholewheat cycle on the panny. The bread was very nice and is now sliced and in the freezer.

For 49p i'll definately buy it again.
