Late Husband's Pensions

My husband sadly died back in 2009. I have remarried in 2019 . Would I be entitled to his private pensions. Time has gone on so would there be anywhere I could find what pensions he had paid in to? I was the sole beneficiary on his Will.
Thanks
Thanks

https://www.gov.uk/find-pension-contact-details might be your starting point. I think it may be quite a lot of work - unless your late husband had few changes of job!Signature removed for peace of mind0

If he died in 2009, why were his pension/s not sorted out then?1

Starting with the obvious: he might not have had any private pensions. Auto enrolment only started to be introduced from 2012 (beginning with the largest employers), and there was no requirement for employers to offer a pension scheme until auto-enrolment compelled them to do so.Welxhminx172 said:My husband sadly died back in 2009. How old was he when he died? Even if you can't remember the names of his employers, what sort of jobs did he have/how long did they tend to last? The size of the employer could well be important - the really big employers are more likely to have had a pension scheme on offer, whereas the local garage or garden centre...not so likely.
The other consideration was how pushed for cash the pair of you were. Even if the employer offered a pension scheme, employees have (since April 1988) had the option of opting out, and many did because 'cash now' appealed more than 'jam tomorrow'. Might that have been the case?Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
Would "widow's" pension terminate upon remarriage?

Some do, some don't. Depends on the scheme rules and relevant dates.BikingBud said:Would "widow's" pension terminate upon remarriage?1 -
Very rare for private sector pensions to have such a provision, although a few do. Much more common in the public sector - Teachers Pension Scheme is one of the obvious examples, where if the member has no active service in the scheme after 31 December 2006, the pension ends on remarriage, civil partnership or cohabitation.Mands said:
It depends. I'm in receipt of three, small, private pensions since my husband's death. None of those terminate on remarriage.BikingBud said:Would "widow's" pension terminate upon remarriage?Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
Agreed, NHS trusts are the other one often quoted as usually terminating on remarriage.Marcon said:

In comparing private vs public it's also true that private often have a 'trophy wife clause' and that's rare in public sector. In my case the private pensions had, and utilised, that clause. So it's very much swings and roundabouts when comparing private vs public.0
