                    Hi
My partner is in a dispute with a former friend who says they are owed money and has logged a claim with the courts. It's nothing to do with me but the former friend is messaging me to say that it will go to a debt collector which won't be nice for me.
I just wanted to check the situation if it gets to a stage where bailiffs come. We live in a rental property - the tenancy agreement is in my name and everything in the house is mine. My partner is on the electoral roll at the moment.
Where do I stand if bailiffs come knocking - would I have to prove that I own everything or are they not allowed to come in as the rented house is in my name only?
Many thanks!

            How much money is involved?
Unless it's many thousands forget bailiffs.
Are you sure they have started a court claim, if so your partner should have received a letter sent by snail mail.If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

Has the friend obtained a county court judgement against your partner?0

OK Block their number and ignore anything they say but can you get a copy of their messages, you might need this as harassment when it comes to the court, they shouldn't be contacting you.
Your partner should defend the court case, whatever he does do not ignore .
Do you think the friend has any evidence? Or is he bluffing knowing the court could throw the case out.If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

            Hi
It's not so much the validity of the claim - that's for my partner to deal with, more just asking about the possible situation down the line assuming they did get a judgement and then took steps to collect the debt.
Am I protected because the tenancy is in my sole name and all the possessions are mine?
 Many thanks again0

Look if there is a judgement and partners pays it no one will turn up ( the court should only make payments that are affordable to him )
If he doesn't pay then it could be passed on for further action but should it reach that stage you just don't let anyone in and keep cars parked somewhere out of sight. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.0

Bailiffs trying to enforce a CCJ have no right of entry to the house, even if it was in her name, so not letting them in is the simple approach.
A car she owns that is parked on the highway is at risk if they get a CCJ.0

A car I own in my name is at risk? How come when the CCJ is not in my name?ManyWays said:Bailiffs trying to enforce a CCJ have no right of entry to the house, even if it was in her name, so not letting them in is the simple approach.

You do not need protection as it is not your debt. If bailiffs come calling do not let them in - send them away. Encourage your partner to deal with this so that it does not go that far.wayforward_2 said:Am I protected because the tenancy is in my sole name and all the possessions are mine?1
