National Insurance Contribution top up query

I have a gap in my NI contributions from 2009/2010. I am 41. I can make this payment online today. However, it asks me the following and I wonder if there is any catch in my response. I don't know when I intend to stop paying NI contributions now as that depends on when I stop working really but it will either be when I reach state pension age or before I reach state pension age. Why are they asking this?

National Insurance contributions

You stop paying National Insurance contributions when you reach State Pension age on * November 2051.

When do you intend to stop paying National Insurance or getting National Insurance credits?

Select when you intend to stop paying National Insurance or getting National Insurance credits

When I reach State Pension age
Before I reach State Pension age
I have already stopped paying National Insurance
I have already stopped getting National Insurance credits

I wonder if you put "When I reach state pension age" they will say that there is no need to fill the gap?

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this to MARTIN but I continually get
    "

Sorry, there is a problem with the service

This might be caused by a high number of people trying to use this service at the moment. Try again later."

    Will they extend again

I am already claiming state pension but have checked and found gaps. The DWP website says to check if it is worth buying contributions to make this up by calling them (link is given on MSE). Calling them simply results in being referred back to the website!

My husband has already retired but has gaps in his national insurance.  We are Unable to speak to Pension service as the call keeps being disconnected.  Is there away of getting a call back registered as there is with Future Pension Service?

The call back form does not mention which particular DWP function it is for, it purely states to pay NI top ups.  It also allows for international numbers so looks like it is covering all bases.

I don't know the answer to your question but found this link and tried the system by typing "national insurance record"
  • Sorry if this has been asked before...
I have 6 years where my national insurance contributions are not full.
My forecast says that if I pay another 3 years then I will receive the maximum pension amount of £221. 20.
Does this mean that if I pay the next 3 years contributions, I don't need to top up any of the years that are not full? Thank you.

Yes, exactly that. If you expect to be paying NI (or getting credits) for 23/24 and the following two years, you don't need to fill any gaps.
