I am trying to track down all of my pensions.
i am 80 years old, and have really tried hard to get the information,  but keep hitting a brick wall. I have had about 9 different pension employments over the years, and about the same number of addresses. As a result, the years I worked are very confusing and long winded.
I first tried gov.uk pension search. Couldnt log in because I don’t have the required ID bits. Tried to phone …. After 2 separate hours hanging on I gave up.
I then tried Gretel. Similar problems as I can’t remember all of my old addresses and post codes.
My question is, where is the best place to go, to get a printed list of all of my old addresses and employments going back 1966 - 2010? Would the tax office have it?
Please help an old lady out, I would appreciate any help and advice given THANKYOU

Apologies for the long read, but this should help - especially my post of 15 May 2021: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6267734/is-there-a-really-detailed-online-method-to-check-nics/p1

Please remember a few things which might help:

    • many employers quite simply didn't have their own pension schemes until auto-enrolment was introduced (it didn't start until 2012!)
    • even if the employer had a pension scheme, if you left prior to 6 April 1975 you rarely had any entitlement to a 'deferred' pension (you'd have received a refund of any personal contributions, often with your final pay packet or shortly afterwards)
    • from 6 April 1975 to 5 April 1988, you needed to have at least five years' membership of a pension scheme to have a right to a 'deferred' pension
    • from 6 April 1988 the five year requirement was reduced to two years for occupational schemes. Personal pensions were introduced in 1988 and have 'immediate vesting' (ie no minimum membership requirement), but weren't in common use as 'workplace' schemes for some years
    • women in particular often couldn't join a scheme until they were older than men - 30 was not that unusual.

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

For your old addresses, maybe start with your most organised relative or friend or the one who most reliably sends birthday or Christmas cards. They may have the sort of address book that has more crossings-out than active addresses.
