Thanks for all your comments, a lot to take in at once but will try and give some of those ideas a go.
To answer questions yes I'm cooking for myself, my freezer is small but a bigger freezer may be a good investment if it saves me money in the long run and sadly my local butcher closed down a few years ago so it's Sainsburys unless I travel further afield.2 -
We manage with a four drawer freezer, any bigger and things would get forgotten, and go past their best. I stock up on meat and fish when it is on offer or yellow stickered. It is useful for frozen vegetables too.

@Meat_Man - I have the same problem when it comes to buying meat ie no butchers locally and, not being a driver, can't get to the more out of the way places. However, I'm finding I'm eating less meat these days, partly because of the cost, partly because SM meat isn't always the best quality and partly because my tastes have changed as I've got older. I haven't given up meat altogether but instead have fish, poultry, more salads and pad out meat dishes with pulses and extra veg. Stir fry is another favourite, doesn't need much in the way of meat. Like @Nelliegrace, I look out for offers or yellow stickers and either freeze straight away or cook and then freeze.
Just before Xmas I bought a new fridge/freezer (old one conked out) and, as a recent singleton, went for a smaller one than before. It took a bit of getting used to and has just three freezer drawers but I'm finding that's enough for my needs. In fact, it means I'm rotating stuff better and using up odds and ends instead of them being lost for the duration.Be kind to others and to yourself too.4
