    Of course, if your wife sells cakes, she'd better make you a pretty nice cake. If she paints fingernails you might have some explaining to do if the tax-man makes enquiries.

    You can also put more into your own pension, then when the time comes to take it, purchase a joint life annuity.

    Or arrange that whatever you draw out of your own pension leaves something that they can inherit it if they outlive you.

    Or contribute to an ISA for her.  Pensions are not the only option for saving for later life.
