Hi
We are being chased for debts over 8 years old. We were initially contacted about one that is recent and were then told about at least 2 others, both of which are over 10 years old!!! We are happy to make an arrangement for the recent one (only a couple hundred pounds) but not the old ones. Can these be enforced? Thanks

depends - when was the last time you made any payment on these old debts - if it's over 6 years ago they are statute barred0

The limitation act gives lenders 6 years to chased old debts, the clock starts from the date of default, but any payment or acknowledgement in writing by you, will reset that clock.
So the question is has there been a clear 6 year gap where the above applied, if so the debt will be statute barred, but you must write and tell them so, as they can still chase these debts, just not obtain a CCJ against you.
Usually when all agree a debts status, they will back off.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
