Advice on the "You Pay, We Pay" Scheme
Hi everyone,
I’m currently in around £6,000 of debt that has built up over the past few years. I recently heard about the You Pay, We Pay scheme and was wondering if anyone who has used it could share their experience and advice on how to apply.
I understand that British Gas assesses your disposable income before approving you for the scheme. However, I’m a bit concerned about the level of financial information they require specifically, whether they need full access to my bank account details.
Does anyone know how much disposable income you need to qualify? Any insight would be greatly appreciated, as I really need help with this.
Thanks in advance!

Have British Gas written to you about this, I dont think they have published their criteria.
You can also apply to the British Gas Energy Trust for help if you dont meet the criteria for You pay We pay. At a guess that might be if you cant afford to make any payments to the arrears.
Do you have other priority arrears such as rent or council tax? Other non priority debts such as catalogues, credit cards and loans?

I only have electricity and gas arrears. You can only apply for the british gas energy trust if arrears are less than £2000. They have not written to me about the "you pay we pay scheme" but i have saw it online, and also when i spoke to a representative of british gas about my debt problems they told me about the scheme, the only thing i dont like is that ive got to give them consent to access my bank information to see my disposable income. I think they can only see money coming in and out, im not entirely sure what they have access to after that but i dont really like the idea of consenting to it, but if i knew other people that have done it then it would probably give me more reassurance to go ahead with it. Also im wondering how much disposable income is the max amount you can have before they don't allow you to qualify for it?ManyWays said:Have British Gas written to you about this, I dont think they have published their criteria.
