Financial Advisor near me

Hi, first post. Is there a website where I can find financial advisors near me.
What are peoples opinions, do I need to go 'big' or keep it local. Are there any recommendations for someone in South Yorkshire, ideally Sheffield.
I am just starting the journey to look at life after work so I will probably ask some dumb questions.

My advice would be to keep it local, idealy using an IFA that a friend or family member has used and can recommend.
I have recommended Fogwill & Jones in S8 in the past (Contact | Fogwill & Jones | Wealth Management)
but I had my Pension Transfer Advice from them in 2016 so I'm quite out of touch with how they are now.
If you are starting to think about retirement, you should probably book an appointment with PensionWise: Pension Wise: free pension guidance | MoneyHelper
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
Ironically you will get the best out of an IFA, by knowing quite a reasonable amount about personal finance yourself, as you will understand better what they are saying, what questions to ask, and the choices to make.
A bit like taking your car to the garage, and being able to talk in detail to the mechanic about what is wrong with the car.
Of course if you learn enough, you might not need an IFA at all !

If you cant get a recomendation from family and ftiends (or even if you can) Google "Independent financial advisor sheffield" provides a long list. You could arrange for an initial free chat with say 3 of them so that you can explain what you want and they can tell you what they can do and the cost. Then choose the one you would feel most comfortable working with.0

Always a local firm as you’ll start to become a ‘number’ at the bigger ones instead of providing a decent service. Be aware that some ‘hide’ that they are affiliated with companies so check the company website’s footer for mention of SJP or Quilter. Look for an independent firm. Also, Facebook often produces people recommending SJP as they don’t know any better.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Any posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and should not be seen as financial advice.0

If Google feels a bit overwhelming you can always try financialadvisers.co.uk. You can search for advisers by location and service which is pretty handy. Hope this helps (I used it myself after Christmas!)0

I just checked my area and none of the local IFAs have a paid listing. One FA did and is a sales rep of SJP and the top entry was owned by the lead generation site.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Especially the last line
If you do go with financial advisors, be sure to absolutely confirm they are Independant - the I in IFA.
Some will try to give that impression but aren’t.
I would also personally be very wary of any company with “wealth management” in their name - I always feel it is their wealth they working hardest on 😳
IFA or DIY are the key choices. The more you learn - there is much mystery about finance - the more you may lean to the latter, but the choice is yours.Plan for tomorrow, enjoy today!0 -
