What small DFW things will you do this w/c 17/02?

Options
When we start on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards, and canceling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer every day to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!

    Hi February Finance Fans,

A precious day off today and I have a few things to do:

    Debt-Free-Nillionaire Continuity Plan Year Nine:
    • Alarm clock off at the wall during day time.
    • Reconciled my finances spreadsheet.
    • Lunch will be batch-cooked soup made from scraps.
    • Timing the drying of the washing so that the radiators are on when Dowd Towers is at it's coldest.
    • Sort out my own nails. No point in going to a salon, I work in an outdoor occupation. They'd be wrecked in no time.
    • Soothe my sore feet with a bucket of cold water.
    • Retrieved something I dropped behind a cabinet.
    • Filled my pill box so I remember my pills and don't get sick(er).
    • Cleared my Letter Rack.
    • Checked TopCashBack.
    • DW gave me a pair of socks she'll never wear.
    • Saved details of Meerkat Cinema offer for later use.
    • Cleared all my emails.
I'll add to this later. Have a good day, friends...
    • ...Thought I was being frugal and took the metal shower hose down to clean it with a toothbrush as it was horribly icky. 🚿 Lovely and clean! Then I put it back together and was pleased with myself til I turned the shower back on...the hose had perished. 🙄 I think the ick was holding it together. 😖 So, a one hour round trip to B&Q so that DW could get a shower this evening. On the positive side the problem was rectified for £9 and it was a simple repair. Thankfully shower hose fittings are generally 'universal'. I could have got one locally tomorrow but the local DIY shop wants a lot more than £9. 🙄 I like to shop local but £20 is too much.

Just remembered that this thread exists and that I wanted to start posting regularly again!!!

Today has not been the most frugal as had a new boiler fitted!!! I'm waiting for the final invoice but his quote was £340 cheaper than a different plumber and he said it was easier than he thought and so would be cheaper than the quote!! Can also scrape together the money (including, unfortunately using my emergency fund) to pay for it myself without taking on further debt.

The other non-frugal thing today is that I'm going to a knitting workshop as I want to learn. (Currently crochet but never tried knitting.) The workshop was originally booked for last month and I used money I was gifted at Christmas - however bf's mum had a major stroke the day before and I didn't feel right leaving him, so I cancelled last minute. So I had to pay again - which I don't mind as I know the person running the workshop plus it was slightly cheaper as not paying for the materials again.

So the frugal things I have actually done today..
    • Updated spreadsheet
    • Meals from stores
    • Free drink included with the workshop, so will try to stick to just that
    • Chased up company that I had an interview with last week - received a positive response but not a definite answer/ salary
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,935.00
Total paid off - £9,665.89 (61% paid off)

    Hi February Finance Fans,

Work today so a short post:

    • Reconciled my finances spreadsheet.
    • Took a packed lunch.
    • Made a note to keep an eye on my credit card statement. A genuine email from my bank looks like there's been a mistake. Looks like they are sending me two credit card statements in one month, and that's definitely not right.

Morning peeps - thanks for the thread ally  :)

twiggy sorry to hear that about oh’s mum. Hope she’s on the road to recovery. Also very interested to know about the boiler (ours is not working and oh will be booking an engineer to come and fix hopefully!) do you mind sharing how much a new boiler and installation costs? Amazing news about it being debt free! We’re saving for new windows this is year, but if we need a new boiler that might have to be put back a year.

    my small things for today:

having to wash up with boiled water so washing up as soon as sink filled so as not to waste the heat!

chopped and froze some free chives (from community shop)

Washing will need to go in tumble - it’s an A rated condenser so low cost

lwft over fried rice for dinner to use up lo pork (veggie version for madam. Will do Chinese cabbage accompaniment to use up ;)

quick tidy round - don’t want to waste my life cleaning today!

    Read library book

nipping up to the woods to get some sticks to make a trug to plant strawberry plants in for a gift for a friends birthday this weekend

going into town and going to visit the cathedral (using residents pass) and the local museum in the library with madam for a day out

read the reduce house insurance article as need to renew ours

ok think that’s all. Have a great day
