Nintendo Wii console from Malaysia

Hi,

Been told that the price of a Nintendo Wii console in Malaysia (for Asian market) may be cheaper than in the UK. The voltage in Malaysia is the same as that in the UK. I'm pretty sure manual will be in English.

Does anyone know if I buy one, will it work for the Wii games bought in the UK?

Thanks.

DjK-UK - Thanks for the reply. As I will be in Malaysia for a holiday, I thought I will get the Wii there if it is cheaper and compatible. I am in no hurry.

Unfortunately, OH thought he will surprise me by ordering one that cost an arm and a leg this morning  . (He's not a MSE) Told him to cancel the order. When he called to cancel the order, the lady told him there was something wrong with the computer and she can't cancel the order. I think she told him to return it when they deliver it. I'm sure it's a ploy to get him to keep it .

I understand that Wii are also 'region' locked so to speak and so if you buy one from Malaysia then UK Pal games bought in the UK will not work on it - you'd have to buy Asian sourced games. The Amazon.de ones are European/Pal ones hence why they work.

JasonLVC - Thanks for the explanation.

reformedEffortMaker - Thanks for the warning.

I have just received an email from a relative who said

"There are Japanese and US version of Wii sell in Asia. Japanese version ...setting language in Japanese...not recommended unless u can read J...Japanese version is slightly cheaper than US.

Malaysia expensive around RM2000 due to high import tax, Singapore is cheaper S$670, Brunei for info. S$700."

    I think I will stick to a UK-sourced Wii.

Malaysian wiis are locked to region 3 (we are region 2) the only way over this would be to buy a wiikey or some other chip but that knocks the price up further. price is around £185 plus P&P (and possible import duty) and another £20 ish for a chip. you are better off getting one here.
