Lowell, prove it letter reply.

I have recently had some letters from Lowell about a credit card I possibly had in 2018, I don't really remember as I was quite ill at the time and also my mum was at death door in hospital, I sent the prove it letter and they have responded.
There is a line that says ' due to the age of the account and data retention, we are unable to provide a copy of the agreement '.
Have they literally just shot themselves in the foot. I didn't send a cca request just the prove it letter, but would have thought they would have held on to that bit of information.
They have also said they have requested statements from the original creditor and that if I wish to dispute the account, I should provide them with full details and evidence.
It still doesn't provide me with any clue as to if I had this card, maybe the statements will shed some light but surely I don't need to do anything now but keep the letter in a safe place just in case.
Or should I send a cca request.

I'd just leave it. Although it might not be technically unenforceable, in practice it is because you have a good defence that, at least at the moment, they can't counter

I just need some clarity on this ongoing issue with Lowell. They have provided a copy of the cca for this account but I have to sign up for an account on their website, which I have refused to do, to view the said cca. Can they do it this way or do they need to send a physical copy by post.So if this cca proves to be correct, the earlier admission of it not being enforceable is blown out the water I guess.Any thought please.0

Assuming that this card is yours, based on the timescale it may well be statute barred or close to becoming so. Have you checked your credit file for any old defaults/CCJs that might relate to this card as that should give you an idea of whether it is still enforceable.
As to the letter, I wouldn't waste your time replying to them or entering into any correspondence with them. They haven't provided you with a CCA, they claim that one is available if you sign up for an account with them (which will no doubt require you to provide a whole load of personal details), maybe it is available for download or maybe they are lying and just want to get phone/email from you so that they can pester you even more.
The only time you need to take them seriously is in the unlikely event that you receive a Letter Before Action, anything else from them can go straight in the bin.0
