Likelihood of minimum years paid increasing?

Hi all,

I have a few gaps in my NI record, I'm likely to not need to fill them though to have the 35 years before retirement. I'm wondering though, how likely is it that before I retire, the minimum number of years might be increased (and therefore I should maybe close some previous gaps)? Is it something that's often happened before, and are there protections in place to stop the government from changing it too drastically?

Thanks

You may not get a full pension even with 35 or more years, depending on whether you have been "contracted out" or not in the past.

Have you checked on the HMRC website here:

Check your State Pension forecast - GOV.UK

You should be able to get a pension forecast that will tell you how much pension you have earned up until now and how many more years you need for a full pension.

There's no immediate likelihood that any rules will change....although that's always a possibility....

Also, how many years until you reach state pension age?
The chances of changes are much greater if you're 25, than they are if you're 55. Or 65.
