Best places for a Laptop charger

Hiya!! did a search but couldnt find threads apart from specific questions for retrurn advice.

My charger for my laptop is ruined, i nearly got an electric shock from it last night as there was a "cut" in the lead and the wire bit was exposed.... anyway.. dh taped it up but now the charger isnt working so i need a new one.

Has anyone got any recomendations as to where to get one from? I looked on maplins website but not too sure.

Also is it best to buy the charger made for my laptop or is a general type one ok?

maplin do them and not bad prices when on offer

lidl did a cheap one a few weeks ago (£25), other than that, my advice would be to try Ebay. I got an original Dell charger from a UK seller a few months ago for around £18.

Try and get an original before buying the multi-voltage/multi-tip style charger that Maplin sell.

This auction is the seller I used, I see he has sony chargers for £20

Plenty of UK sellers now stock OEM chargers, Dell chargers for eg, still only £16, HP for £20, Toshiba £15.

thanks for the answers!! I got one from maplin, was on offer but the end doesnt fit "snuggly" enough so I have to return it. I phoned gateway customer care to see if there was somewhere i could get an original one from but the guy told me maplin!!
I'll take the laptop with me next time as i forgot it when i went before, to get a better fit.

Ebay doesn't seem to have any specific gateway ones at the moment, just universal ones that can be used for gateway.
