Update on this, just received a phone call from HMRC (in response to my phone call Monday am not the online form submission). Very helpful chap, and after explaining the situation he has reset my tax code back to 1257L for remainder of this year and for next year (haven't received confirmation yet). Quite happy to do this from my explanation and circumstances. I mentioned the online form submission and he said this will now be ignored as he has effectively done the same action on my account. Plus, I was correct the initial call handlers cant access my account due to previous employment, he has also actioned this to confirm I am no longer employed by Government and should be released to first call agents from now on. All sounds promising so fingers crossed.
