Valuntary NI Payments for 1998 - 2003

Good morning,

I have a few gaps in my NI contributions specificalyl betwwen 1998 - 2003. Essentially during this period:

• I was a student in Uni.
• I joined an employment agency for a period. And worked some shifts to earn funds to pay for Uni supplies. Their payroll sorted out Tax, NI etc. and my salary went directly into my bank account. Unfortunately, I have no records as to this and I believe the agency is defunct now.

• After Uni I took a year out to relax and recharge before attending the ‘school of life’.
• My father suffered a horrendous medical issue which resulted in him becoming infirm. During his 2 – 3-year recovery period I stepped in and ran his business. Because the business was financially unsound, I did not take a salary for the period. I just worked, paid the bills, paid the tax man, took care of mum and the family, and handed everything back to my father when he recovered.

Is there anything I can do to pay for these gaps as these pre-date 2016?

Thank you.

J.
