in Cutting tax
The tax free allowance on my self assessment shows the default amount, which is lower than that given by my PAYE tax code by over £1000 in my favour. On closer inspection this has been the case since I've been submitting returns, about 5 years! By my calculation that's around £200 a year I've overpaid. What are my chances of claiming this back off HMRC for this year, and previous years, and how do I go about claiming it?

Are you refereeing to your Personal Allowance or something else?
Have you applied for or receive Marriage Allowance?
Is your adjusted net income more than £1001 -
Sorry,
Yes, personal allowance.
Yes, receive marriage allowance.
Not sure what adjusted net income is, it's not on the calculation. But yes, total income more than £100.0 -

So can you explain specially what you think is different?
Marriage Allowance doesn't actually entitle you to any extra allowances. You receive a tax credit of £252. Have you checked if that is included?
If you are a higher rate payer you will lose Marriage Allowance and that alone could mean you owe over £500.0 -

£252 has been taken off for marriage allowance, so I guess that's it. Thanks for your help!0
