Hi  all , thought i'd ask here as obviously the HMRC helpline is useless and after five mins just says it can't continue the call.

So, I went to set up a government gateway yesterday to check my NI contributions. Turns out I can't do that as my dad has previously taken care of everything and has it under his account (I'm self employed, he did the accounts for years). I get the message 'We have found your personal tax account under a different Government Gateway user ID'

So, I thought I might be able to transfer it to my account. I have his login, and can log in, but see no option to transfer the account to my own user ID/email .

Does anyone know a way to achieve this?

Have you checked whose details are in the ID ?  Surely he can't have your tax account under his name / NI number / DOB ?
