Was planning to let accounts default first because starting payments for DMP with PayPlan. Currently talking to an advisor and they are getting initial information from me. I think I already have a couple of missed payments in January. Not planning to make any more payments this February. And also for a few months until I see defaults on my files.

But will PayPlan wait for me? I do not want to get AP markers.

Thank you.

You are in a very difficult situation and no one here can give advice from professional or personal experience about debts in Jersey or what your creditors may do. I suggest that at the moment your credit record in 6 years time should be very low on your list of worries, so why not sign up with Paypal, get things onto a stable basis, massively reduce your stress and see how many of the lenders have defaulted you in 6-12 months time.

You are in charge. If you don't want it to start for say 6 months, tell them.

If they don't like it, you can always self-manage (or use Stepchange)

Thank you so much. I am just worried about being summoned into court etc. I also have Citizens Advice helping me locally. The laws here are not very different from the UK.

The main fear is the being put into prison.

The year is 2025, not 1825, debtors prison was abolished more than a century ago, even in the channel islands.

Legal action for debt is almost always the realm of the county court, you can only be sent to prison for debt if you have been dealt with by a Magistrates court, and been convicted of committing any criminal activity, such as fraud, or you are not following an instruction from that court.

You cannot be sent to prison for common debts such as consumer credit act loans/cards or utility debts.
