Using Nectar points to buy gift cards in Sainsbury's

Has anyone recently managed to purchase an in-store gift card with their nectar points. I'm sure I've done so in the past but was in today and wasn't allowed to get a Fat Face gift card using my points.

I get what their T&Cs say but has anyone had any success getting a gift card with nectar points before, whether at self checkout or on a till, for example alongside your normal shopping items?
Also, what if, you purchased something using Nectar points in, for example Argos, then returned it for a full refund, how do they process the refund, do you get your Nectar point back or do they refund cash/card?
TBH, the while system seems odd. I can get Nectar points at the store I want to purchase a gift card for but I can't spend my points at that store.0
