Problem with self assessment submission

Yes. I have received the same error today. I could not proceed with my submission. It wants to force me to enter a disallowed expense. Entering zero does not clear the error either. It won’t let me proceed further. However the system would have allowed me to submit an incomplete tax return had I not gone back to circumvent this and realised some sections were incomplete. It let me do a tax calculation without all sections being completed. This is today on the 24/25 tax year submission. So clearly HMRC have not solved this software issue in a long time.0

I had an online error several years ago when the government was transitioning and pushing for the self employed to submit returns online rather than on paper. The system was saying my expenses were wrong. I rang the HMRC helpline at the time and was told to submit inaccurate figures and add a note in the notes field. I asked you must be joking right? I told him I would abandon online as it was not fit for purpose. I submitted paper every year until forced online. HMRC need to get better software analyst programmers. These errors seem to be stuck in the online system. I have a deep mistrust of HMRC and their online software, especially as this make tax digital is coming in. I foresee problems. I expect the system will not be robust enough. What do others think?0
