New job contract paper hours and real working hours don't align. What to do?

Options
Asking for a friend who just started new job.

Looking at the new job contract paper, it says:

"You're required to work maximum of 5 days out of 6 trading days (8 hours per day)." - Salary £24k

Started now job, the manager is now saying need to work all 6 days for the same salary of £24k, else job gone.

What can be done in this respect. If they continue to work 6 days per week until they find new job, can we then sue the employer for these additional hours or is this charity hours now?

Obviously going to start looking for new job but want to continue working in the mean time to keep earning.

Well if they are working the extra day & not having in back "in lieu" then the employer is breaking the law from a National Minimum Wage aspect as on 5 days they are only being paid just above the NMW.

Am I correct in saying that their salary would also need to increase in April 2025 as NMW increased?

Yes, for a 40 hour (5 day week) would need to be at least £25,396.80
