Cancelled direct debit loan payment and NatWest took it from my new bank anyway

So, I cancelled my direct debits for the two credit cards and two loans with NatWest that I’m currently in the process of setting up a DMP for (and in Breathing Space until 18 March) and I did this about ten days ago. I noticed one was showing on my new bank that I’d done the bank transfer process with yesterday and I phoned them today to ensure this was cancelled and I was assured this was actioned.
Just logged on to new bank and £145 has been taken out by NatWest regardless 😢. Can I do anything or is it tough? I can’t afford the payment as I’m trying to get a small emergency fund prior to DMP and no longer using credit cards as per my Breathing Space rules. Gutted…

You should not have used the bank switch process but you should have manually transferred the vital direct debits yourself.
This is why we say never use switch. If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.2 -
If you used the switch process, all your DDs will have been moved. It's a great help for most people, but not what you want. Go through and cancel them all today.
Are you not also going for a DMP on the non Natwest debts? That Sainsburys loan was large and you want interest stopped on the lloyds card and Paypal too. Then your emergency fund builds much faster
Could you post a Statement of Affairs here to see the big picture? https://www.stoozing.com/soa.php0 -

Could you post a Statement of Affairs here to see the big picture? https://www.stoozing.com/soa.phpI did start doing them manually but it was taking forever, and I thought I’d be protected in the transition using the switching service with the Direct Debit guarantee as I was scared of my mortgage getting messed up. Doh 😣I’ll do SOA asap.Thank you 🙏0 -

Contact your bank, by phone, today, ask them to reverse the DD payment, and make certain the DD is now cancelled, its all covered under the direct debt guarantee.
They will do so without question, it`s very easy to get your money back.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. OP that cancelled DD should not have been switched as a live one - so as Sourcrates says, you should be able to get it reversed.
Going forwards, go through the list of DDs that are active on the new account to be sure that only ones you want are still showing there.
As a rule we would suggest not using the switching service, but cancelling the DDs that need to not transfer ahead of the request for the switch being made should also work - that seems to be where things have fallen down here.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

And it’s 6pm and still showing as a debit on Coop in my transactions. Very frustrating. If it is still there tomorrow morning I’ll contact Coop for the third time and dispute the transaction and request immediate refund.
Thank you all for your wisdom!0
