TPS Gaps

Really struggling to calculate my likely TPS.

I joined TPS Sept 2002. Left it August 2020 as my independent school moved to a different scheme.

I have the chance to move to a TPS school in Sept. I understand that the maximum gap is 'no more than 5 years' to pick up the scheme rather than start again.

Last payment in August 2020. First payment back in Sept 2025 is this 5 years or just over?
Regards

Mark

September 2025 is more than five years after August 2020.
However I don't know if TPS has it's own definition of "five years" which is fundamentally different to basic maths.

Have any of these jobs been as a maths teacher 😉
  • No, its because August is the end of one year and Sept the start of the next so it may be classed as 5 full years

September 1 2020 is one day after August 31 2020.
September 1 2025 is five years and one day after August 31 2020.
Mathematically, there's no way for any part of September 2025.to be "no more than five years" after any part of August 2020.

That would need TPS's definition of "five years" to be something other than the normal meaning of those words.

And having had dealings with the TPS that's not entirely impossible :)

In the case of a teaching assistant in the LGPS the service would be calendar, not end of summer term/start of autumn term.  But, yes, we are talking TPS here.....

Can you take even temporary work for a TPS employer before September?

  • If they really want me, I will ask if they can pay me for August so I fall within the 5 years as without that, I'm better off not rejoining it
