Self Assessment Confusion - Says 'No Tax to Pay'

In the absence of any revelation on this, I think I'll just pay the amount due on my SA calculation next week (even though it says no tax is due) as this looks right to me.
Hopefully any overpayment can be corrected in the future.

I haven't really got the time to try and phone them, with all the reports of them not answering the phone either.

Have you found the page on SA which lets you see your payments over previous years? Not sure if that would help, but it might let you check that you payments were recorded properly.

Yes I've found that - looks like everything was zeroed off in the previous tax years

Or when looking at the page for your 2023-24 return a section called "Tax year overview

If you can afford to make the payment without hardship, and it helps you sleep at night, you could go ahead and make the payment. The interest offered by HMRC on overpayments is pretty reasonable, and you are going to have another payment to make in July anyway. If you eventually turn out not to owe the money, you can ask for a refund any time, or just let it sit there and accrue interest.

You only get interest from HMRC if you pay tax that is due.

If it simply sits an unnecessary credit in your Self Assessment account no interest would be paid.

So if it turns out the op pays more than is needed they are probably better getting a refund and sticking it in an interest paying account.

The same thing has happened to me two years running. My accountant submitted my tax return a couple or weeks ago, and I have just logged in to pay it, but it says zero to pay again.  Last year I rang the tax office and they didn't know about Gateway and could not log into the website. I landed up just paying it. Seems Gateway is pointless. It does say you can talk to them, but then says the service is not available. That's the Great British Government for you.

What does it show as due to be paid tomorrow?
