Specified Adult Childcare Credits - Period of Care

Options
I've been trying to figure this out but one detail I haven't been able to find is exactly how many weeks do you need to have looked after the child in order to qualify for the full year NI credit?

If you've been looking after a child regularly but not every single week, do those missed weeks mean you won't qualify for a full year? (assuming no existing credits for those years)

So when people claim these credits, do they just claim for each full tax year?

Appreciate if anyone knows!

The period should be weekly so you would need to pay for weeks when you were not caring but it seems that many claim a full year when they actually only do a few weeks but no one bothers to check or seem to care.
  • Thanks very much for the reply. So if I understand it correctly, you receive 1 credit per week that you claim for, and you need 52 of these credits to make up the full qualifying year, otherwise you would have to pay to make up all the missing weeks needed to make it up to 52.
