Should i replace my fridge

Options
Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum and i wanted some advice.

Recently, I’ve been considering replacing my fridge because of growing concerns about fire safety, specifically related to the plastic backing on many models. After researching the issue, I found that the plastic backing on older or certain budget fridges could potentially be a fire hazard.

Replacing my fridge with one that has a metal or fire-resistant backing seems like a safer choice for my home, especially considering the peace of mind it could offer.

my Mrs i.e. the boss is not very keen on replacing the fridge which is 8 years old Hisense.

I’d like to know if anyone else has had similar concerns about fridge safety or if you've made the decision to replace your fridge due to fire safety reasons. What kind of fridge did you choose i.e. laminated aluminium or metal?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.

I haven't changed by fridge for Fire Safety reasons, but if you are wanting to change, use the opportunity to buy a frdige that is more efficient than your current one. This means you will get a financial benefit from changing. This might sway your wife, especially if the Hisense turns out to be quite inefficient.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

My fridge is 20 years old.
Never really given fire safety a second thought.
I am thinking of replacing it, but that’s for energy efficiency reasons and getting in first before it dies on me.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

i recently watched the "Bidding Room (BBC 1 Series 6 Episode 3" where a working 1950's fridge was sold to a dealer (who intends to continue to use it). The episode aired on 10th Jan this year so might still be available on BBC iPlayer.

Personally my fridge is 25 years old and ive not considered changing it (its become a bit noisier over the years but that's not bothered me).
