Hi

I am coming a male and coming 66 in a couple of months time.
Can anyone advise if I have to apply for the State Pension or does something happen automatically to trigger the benefit. If I have to apply can someone please advise as to how I go about doing this.

Many thanks

As above, apply for it. After that you don't have to do anything, on the day it's due it appears in your bank account like magic  :D

Once you get your confirmation letter you can register for the online "manage your state pension" service and change the payment frequency from the default every 4 weeks to weekly if you wish.

But you should get a letter inviting you to apply first.....

I don't know if the OP is in Northern Ireland, but if not this is the relevant link for the rest of the UK
