electric toothbrush?

hi all,

im looking to buy a electric toothbrush and i noticed a lot of oral-b products are on sale.

the oral- pro series 1 is for sale at boots, morrisons and sainsbury's for £35 (down from £60).

but morrisons has the oral-b pro 1 680, online for £20 (down from £60).

other than the design, is there any difference between these two models?

thanks

Technically the Pro-1 toothbrushes are alike. You are choosing between colours and possible extras in the box, like a travel case

If you can get one for £20 it is a good choice. I have one. It takes a long time to charge but otherwise very happy with it

I wouldn't go for either of those as they don't have a visual pressure sensor, but an oral b with that feature is not that much more expensive - for example the Pro 3.

Oral-B Pro 3 Electric Toothbrushes For Adults, Oral B Electric Toothbrush, 1 Cross Action Toothbrush Head, 3 Modes with Teeth Whitening, Electric Toothbrush Oral B, 2 Pin UK Plug, 3000, Blue https://amzn.eu/d/dwz4q2P

Whatever you go for, do make sure you buy the official heads, and not generic knockoffs. The official heads can often be found on discount - I have a look whenever I'm in Boots / Superdrug.

Oral-B toothbrush heads are regularly on offer in Boots £10 Tuesday deals at unsurprisingly £10 per pack (normally £19.50).  Order 2 packs and you'll get Click and Collect free (£15 min spend) or order 3 packs to beat the min spend for free standard delivery.
  • I have the Oral-B Pro 3, 3900!

I managed to get the Black Twin Pack, ( 2x toothbrushes, + extra brushes) on a Amazon deal.
    I payed £43.00

The replacements heads are on offer a lot, saw some in my local LIDL at Christmas.

I am very happy with the Pro 3, I normally just use the standard setting, the toothbrush will briefly paus when your using it to help you clean all parts of your mouth equally.

If you brush too hard, the top of the handle will light up red, but you really need to be quite forceful for this to happen.

Battery is decent, will last me a couple of weeks, before I need to charge. (Morn/Night use, standard setting)

If your coming from a manual brush, the difference is massive, teeth feel much cleaner.

Thanks for all the replies. I will buy the oral-b pro 3 twin pack as recommended here.

    Thanks again.

I bought an oral-b from [auction site] for £22 (I don't like the shape of their handles on their current range sold in supermarkets)

If it's described as "smart" and costs £40, what the smart might mean, is that the toothbrush communicates with your smartphone -- which you might decide you don't need. I'm surviving without an LCD display on mine. It's got a red LED which lights up when it's low on charge.

Which brings me to another point I could write a lot more about but won't. You can't replace the batteries on an oral-b (not without tools to prise open the case and a soldering iron). Your batt will probably last 2-3 years, so because oral-b are obviously not too concerned about the environment and want to sell you an entire toothbrush, you'll need to buy a new one, and will get a new charging plug. So after 5 years or so you'll have a few toothbrushes that don't hold more than a few uses of charge, and 3 or 4 charging plugs.

and ps, yes. as someone has said, "official" oral b replacement heads will cost about £10 for 4, or you can buy unofficial ones from your preferred online source, for £5 for 4 or so. If it does run out of charge halfway through, previously I had a backup manual toothbrush (I'd never go back to a manual brush by choice), but now I have a spare oral b with noticeably slower brush action, with 3 uses of charge as a spare

The risk of "unofficial" heads is they're made of the wrong materials and damage your teeth, or (I think there was a thread on here a while back) they break apart in your mouth in use... I'm personally sticking with official heads bought when on offer.

Oral B's (non IO) come in two shapes

Vitality/Vitality Pro Oral-B Vitality Pro which is fatter at the top where the head joins than the base (slightly triangular) These tend to be cheaper (this one is 2 brushes for £40)

And the pro range which is more straight up and down, but more expensive, this one is £53 for a single brush, but has a visual pressure sensor. I have one of these myself

I don't agree that you should buy branded heads.  I have not for years and the brushes and teeth are fine.  Just pay attention to reviews.  Selling of the overpriced heads is how they make money.  Hoover would not accept the invention of a bagless cleaner from James Dyson as they made so much money selling bags.  Look what happened?????

Bit late when your dentist tells you, you've damaged your teeth as a result. But you do you.

Can he/she say what the specific cause was? I fully expect there to be a panorama in 10 years time which will say that half the ingredients in "deep clean extra strength super whitening" toothpaste, caused microdamage to tooth enamel structures/cat migraines/other side effect. My main gripe is that the batteries aren't replaceable. However much oral b seems to care about the environment, (and not having a dedicated mountain of un used base charger pads), it doesn't seem to be that much (which is......surprising?)
